In 21 days, more than 27 thousand miles were traveled through 18 cities in 10 countries. 11 teams raced and eight were eliminated with one spot for first place.
On May 13, CBS aired the last leg of The Amazing Race with three remaining teams finishing off the race in Los Angeles, California.
Teams flew more than 7,000 miles from Shenzhen, China to their first stop of the leg at Angelus Plaza in downtown L.A.
Dana & Matt said they were determined to get through this leg with good communication.
During the Roadblock: Leap of Faith, teams were to jump off of a skyscraper and grab the next clue dangling 170 feet above the ground. If the contestant failed to reach the clue, they were to return to the top and try and again with the clue moved a little closer.
Dana & Matt were first. Matt successfully grabbed the clue on the first try.
Sheri jumped next. With a fear of heights, Sheri was terrified and filled with tears before giving it a go. She missed the clue the first time and then successfully grabbed it on the second leap.
Korey said that his team was better on second tries. Here, third time was a charm, being that Tyler successfully grabbed the clue after missing it on the first and second tires.
The clue told teams to head to Santa Barbara in a helicopter. They were to find their next clue on a boat called the Theresa Ann, which was to be found in the harbor full of boats.
Dana & Matt remained in first place. They began to worry as it was difficult to find a taxi in order to get to their next destination called Gibraltar Rock.
This mission was a 300-foot Tyrolean Traverse. Here, teams had to retrieve the clue by pulling themselves backwards on a horizontal zipline. While doing so, it would lower their partner down the side of Gibraltar’s rock face to grab the other half of the clue.
This clue told contestants to find their next clue at Grassini Family Vineyards. Here was another Roadblock: Roll Out The Barrels. In the correct order, teams had to hang lids on the stacked barrels with hashtags from their clues used throughout the Race as well as spelling out the corresponding city. Dana, Cole and Korey performed this task.
The eight eliminated teams awaited the last of The Amazing Race contestants at the finish line. First to the mat was Dana & Matt and a little dance performance followed from the couple.
Matt said that he thought the Race tested some of their weaknesses, which developed some fights. He continued, “So I think it’s definitely brought us closer.”
Beyond gaining more understanding for each other, the couple gained one million dollars!
Second to the mat was mother/son team, Sheri & Cole. Cole said he was so very proud of his mother.
Last to join the mat during this leg with Tyler & Korey.
Matt later gave a little taste of how he was feeling about winning the Race. “It was just such an incredible experience.”
