All of us have spent mindless hours watching numerous videos. We jump from one YouTuber’s channel to the next wondering who will rise above all. Writer Madonna Matta narrows them down for us to the top 10 up-comers. Her picks vary from comedy, socially aware to “how to” videos.
The stands out from the article are Sabrina Cruz aka NerdyAndQuirky, a 17 year-old Torontonian known for her thought-provoking and wildly entertaining videos. I’ve seen Cruz’s videos and dig what she does. She educates others with an authentic and brassy approach to make the point on what’s bothering her in the moment. Emerging at number 4, Alexis G. Zall, a 17 year-old actress who writes and produces videos. Zall uses her spunky personality in her “how do” videos covering fashion, raising kids, to doing magic. Another YouTuber I found provocative, Franchesca Ramsey, whose online persona is Chescaleigh. Her channel is a mix of socially conscious and topical comedy sketches. Ramsey is the host a MTV webseries, Decoded and her videos have been featured on MTV, The New York Times, NPR, MSNBC, ABC and the BBC. The quirkiest on the rise is Vlogger Kevin Droniak. His vlogger partner is none other than his Grandma. They create hilarious videos on pop cultural trends and everyday life events. Droniak’s video, My Grandma Reacts to Anaconda Music Video by Nicki Minaj shows him coaxing Grandma to watch the risque music video. It has been viewed over 3M times and featured on FUSE’s website.
