The six remaining teams were put up to some pretty intense tasks during this week’s episode of The Amazing Race.
On Friday, April 15, CBS aired the eighth episode, which had teams traveling from Georgia to the United Arab Emirates.
Once teams landed at Dubai International Airport, they chose a Mitsubishi SUV to drive themselves to marked bedouin camp located outside of the city in the Al Faqa Desert.
Here, males had their first encounter of giving nose-to-nose greetings. Teams were handed the Travelocity Roaming Gnome to carry throughout the leg, as well as the next clue with the Detours: Races or Oasis.
Races meant that teams had ride bicycles in a 1.2-mile race against camels at the Al Moroum (Dubai Camel Race Track). With automated jockeys riding on top, the animals were capable of running up to 40 mph. In order to get the next clue, teams would have to cross the finish line before the camels did so. If teams lost to the camels, they got a head start their next try.
The start of the race didn’t seem to be a problem for Brodie & Kurt, but then the camels got in front. The frisbee players ended up crossing over the finish line before the camels and any other team. On the other hand, this task wasn’t as easy for the other teams.
Oasis consisted of leading four camels across a marked path through the desert to a bedouin camp. Before receiving the next clue, teams were offered traditional regag bread and camel milk.
Next up was to travel to Atlantis, The Palm waterpark on Palm Jumeirah. In the Aquaventure section of the park, they would find the Roadblock clue.
One team member was to put a diving helmet on and walk through a freezing cold aquarium filled with sharks and manta rays to retrieve a canister. The contestant had to place the canister into a waiting net that would be pulled up to the surface.
“He’s a cute boy, he doesn’t need any missing body parts,” Sheri said about her son when grabbing the clue from the aquarium.
As soon as the team member was out of the aquarium, they were to solve the puzzle inside of the canister by turning the cylinder-shaped object in a way that floated the letters into the matching slots of a clue envelope. They were given the next clue after they spelled out “RACE.”
After accomplishing the puzzle, each contestant were to slide down the Poseidon’s Revenge water slide.
Afterwards, teams were to go to the Pit Stop at Old Souq Station.
Both Sheri & Cole and Matt & Dana got very lost while driving, during this leg of the Race. Actually, the couple got into a huge fight as Dana tried to navigate Matt to the next destination, even Phil noticed.
Contestants had to travel to the Deira district of Dubai and take a marked boat across the harbor to where they would meet Phil at Old Souq Station.
First to the mat was Brodie & Kurt, who won a trip to Helston, England. Burnie & Ashley were second, followed by Tyler & Korey.
In fourth came Zach & Rachel and then Matt & Dana. The couple had so much tension that when they arrived, Phil told them that in order to win the race, they would need to work together.
In last place came Sheri & Cole. Luckily, this was not an elimination round so the mother/son team were able to stay in the Race. Cole was excited that the second time him and his mother came in last place, they weren’t eliminated.
