Esquire Network has ordered eight episodes of The Mike Stud Project (working title) docuseries, which follows baseball player-turned-rapper and YouTube star Mike Stud for premiere this summer.
Stud is a Duke-educated and former All-American baseball player who turned to music after an injury robbed him of his lifelong dream to play pro ball. Now, Stud is at the top of the Billboard and iTunes charts. He is continually building his brand as an unsigned artist, relying on social media to build awareness, sell tickets and engage with fans around the world. The series follows Stud’s 40-city Back2You Tour across North America and his entourage of friends turned collaborators following Stud’s latest album release.
In the past five years, Stud has garnered over 60 million views on his YouTube channel, released three #1 Hip-Hop Albums on iTunes, and headlined three national tours.
The Rhode Island native’s first musical recognition came with the release of viral single College Humor, which was originally recorded on GarageBand as a joke by Seander while he was a relief pitcher at Duke University. Since its release, the video has been viewed over 1.8 million times. Stud followed up his breakout hit with In This Life, which featured West Coast rapper and former Cal wide receiver Alex Lagemann (a.k.a. Loggy). The track chronicles the journey of the two rappers from athletics to music. In 2013, Stud released his debut studio album Relief and a year later released his second album Closer. In January 2016, Stud released his third studio album, These Days, which includes a feature from Toronto Blue Jays pitcher, and Stud’s former Duke teammate; Marcus Stroman. Later this year, he is expected to release a mixtape with Rapper Sammy Adams.
The Mike Stud Project (wt) is produced by Den of Thieves, executive produced by Jesse Ignjatovic, Evan Prager and Alexandra Lipsitz and co-executive produced by Jordan Barrow, Jared Morell and Austin Rosen.
