The Weeknd, Justin Bieber, Drake and Vine Star Shawn Mendes dominated this year’s nominations for the Canadian music awards show, Juno Awards, which is set for April 3 on CTV.
Vine Star Shawn Mendes scored 4 nominations in categories: Juno Fan Choice Award, Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Pop Album of the Year. The Weeknd pulled in 6 nominations. Bieber and Drake each came away with 5 nominations. Other top nominees include Alessia Cara, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Tobias Jesso Jr. and City and Color.
Mendes’ Handwritten shares the best pop album category with fellow nominees Bieber’s Purpose, Hedley’s Hello, Scott Helman’s Augusta and Walk Off the Earth’s Sing it All the Way.
In the best artist of the year competition, Mendes’ takes on City and Colour’s Dine Alone, Drake’s Cash Money, Justin Bieber’s Island and The Weeknd’s The Weeknd XO.
The best album category, Mendes’ will be going up against Drake’s If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, Bieber’s Purpose, The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind the Madness and Jean Leloup’s A Paradis City.
The fan’s voted favorite artist award, Juno Fan Choice Award, has Mendes pitted against 9 other artists which include; Alessia Cara, Carly Rae Jepsen, Drake, Justin Bieber and The Weeknd.
The Juno Awards also named Bryan Adams, Dean Brody, Shawn Mendes and Alessia Cara to perform during the live telecast and Burton Cummings will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
