Not only did Tyler & Korey win first place in the second round of The Amazing Race, but also a trip to St. Thomas.
CBS streamed the second episode of season 28 on Friday Feb. 19, as the 11 teams fought to remain in the race after a tough fight in Cartagena, Colombia.
Here’s how it all spanned out.
It started with Roadblock, where teams had to climb up the muddy stairs of the volcano to then submerge themselves from head to toe in order to locate a hidden emerald. To get the next clue, they were to swim out into the nearby lagoon.
Several of the contestants found this to be difficult. Korey had to make his way back up the volcano for another try after watching the first emerald he found, roll down the hill after dropping it. Burnie called out, “You look like Gollum looking for the ring!”
Meanwhile, Dana found a satchel with a different stone and had to get back into the mud volcano to retrieve the correct one. For Hagan, the stress of getting onto the last flight into Cartagena and being in last place from the start, didn’t help with keeping calm.
Detour consisted of two exercises to choose from. With Pop-Up, contestants had to build a mini beach shelter for use of the locals by using sticks and poles, which would then be covered with tarps. Parrilla meant that teams had to prepare dishes of fried fish, rice and plantains to serve to locals.
Speed Bump was performed by Scott & Blair, which consisted of them helping locals pull in a large fishing net to collect what was caught from the beach. The father and daughter were beyond happy to have not gotten eliminated after round one.
Brodie & Kurt came in second place, followed by Burnie & Ashley in third.
It was a close call between Darius & Cameron and Marty & Hagan for last place, which resulted in the brothers driving past them while running back to their taxi.
When the mother and daughter arrived on the mat, Phil told them they were eliminated. Hagan explained that she wasn’t ready to leave, while Marty felt this was one of the last mother-daughter events they’ll get to do for a while.
“There’s nobody I would’ve wanted to do the Race with other than her,” Marty said.
Tyler tweeted his farewell and admiration for themother and daughter team.
